Tufts University Supports St. Thomas Eye Hospital
Tufts University recently sent two retina fellows to Ghana to work with Dr. Michael Gyasi, a retina surgeon at St. Thomas Eye Hospital. This is the initiative of Prf. Jay Duker, after his visit to Ghana in 2013 to provide Retina Services. At that time the entire country had no vitreoretina services and all patients who needed such care were sent abroad for treatment. Those who cannot afford, were left behind to go blind. He was instrumental in Dr. Gyasi enrolling into vitreoretina fellowship. In April 2016, two fellows, Dr. Anthony Joseph and Dr. Courtney Crawford, from his department visited Ghana to perform retina surgeries with Dr. Gyasi.
